Life With Schnauzers

 Confession

I'm so ashamed.  I've been keeping this from everybody...........but I think Ice already suspects.....

Okay, I'll get to the point.  Truth is.....I'm an addict.  No, not drugs.  It's more of the "liquid" variety.  My mind and my body crave it and when I can't resist the urge any longer, I fill a big glass and I unashamedly indulge (only at home, of course).  What would the world think of me if I revealed it?  I'm about to find out because I have vowed to click the "submit" button with no turning back.

I, in fact, have a glass full of my "comfort drink" of choice in front of me as I type, but I'm trying to pace myself as it is the second glassfull I've had in half an hour.  If you're waiting for the "please help me" part, I fear I will never get to that point.  I need it, I want it, and I love it.  Besides, I can handle it!  I can quit any time I want to......I just don't want to.

So.......I've made my confession.  It's finally done!

Now, I'm going to relax and hope you all understand.  And get myself another glass.......

of Bulgarian Style Buttermilk!  Ahhhhhh........nectar of the gods!  And even better with chocolate cake or a ding dong.  I'm so bad! hehe

By the way, Ice has the next chapter up and going at The New Residencia.  Check it out!  Love to all!

 Empty Nest

Ice and I are a little off kelter this evening as we find ourselves alone.  Ginger and her family had been with us since Sunday due to the disastrous ice storm that left their entire town without power.  If you can't tell by the picture, they got one and a half inches of ice that devastated everything.  They found out today that they should have power again at their home tomorrow, so they left to spend the night with friends and get back to their jobs.  It's eerily quiet here and we miss them already.

As usual, it's been hectic around here and we seem to never get caught up on all that we need to do.  It doesn't leave any time for blogging, for sure.  I brought work home with me again, but haven't lifted a finger yet to get it done this evening.  We need a vacation and by vacation, I mean more than a day or two.

We made a very hard decision last weekend to shut down the kennel and get out of the puppy business.  That decision wasn't hard since we both have come to realize that we simply don't have the time or energy to do things we way we want.  Both our jobs are very demanding and stressful and the extra work that the kennel added has just become too much for us.  Especially since my back won't hold up to what it used to.

The hard part is the part that I have shed many tears over.  And that is the fact that we must give up most of our adult dogs.  I'm so in love with them all that it's the hardest thing in the world for me to give them up, but we've decided to keep only two.  Buster was our first Schnauzer and we would never give him up.  So I have agonized about which of the others to keep, knowing I'd have to give up the rest.

We discussed all the pros and cons of each dog, but I found that I absolutely could not even discuss giving Junior up.  I would choke up before I could even get a word out, so I've decided that he will stay with us.  We will find good homes for the rest and I'll probably cry for months, but I realize that it's best for them.  We simply can't give seven dogs the attention they deserve, so I'll console myself that each of the five will be getting that individual attention and most likely be more spoiled than they are now.

On the positive side, Junior will become a permanent house dog along with Buster and he will have the love seat to himself, which is his favorite place to stretch out and sleep.

Although it will be hard to get through for a while, I am very much looking forward to taking down all the extra fencing and reclaiming the back yard.  The kennel was built  for easy conversion to a storage building and we need one desperately.  And we will again have the time to travel like we used to and not be so tied down.  We need that.  And more time to blog!

The puppies are growing like little weeds and are the cutest little things I've ever seen!  We hear those cute little barks and growls when we go into the kennel and I love to watch them tumble and wrestle in the pen.  Each litter is eating two cans of puppy food a day, so they are keeping us really busy changing papers and feeding, but the weather hasn't allowed us to let them access to the outside pens yet.  I hope that happens soon because I hate to see them cooped up when they are big enough to go outside and play.....and POOP!  They are little walking poop factories already.

Adorable, tho!

That's all the drivel I know this evening, so I think I'll look around here on the stream and check up on all my friends.

Love to all!

 Puppy's Pups

Sweet little Prissy has been warming my lap and making sure I feel loved for the last half hour.  Or does she just want some of that spaghetti that I left in my plate? hmmmm....

This is her at my office yesterday as she and Buster made the rounds and charmed everybody there.

Ice and I did kennel duty earlier (he did, rather).  By the time I got home, he was already out there, so I made it there just in time to just sit down and hold the puppies.  They are so-o-o-o-o precious!  Sally and LaQuinta each have a particular puppy that prefers to sleep in the dog food dispenser and they look so cute all curled up in there.

We took all 15 of them to the Vet yesterday to be wormed.  This is our backup Vet since ours has been out of town on a family matter.  His helper came out to get the puppies and he picked up the box that had LaQuinta's pups in it and was wowing about how many there were (8).  Then he brought them back out and I handed him the carrier that contained Sally's seven pups.  His eyes got big and said, "You mean there are more?!".  Lol, I had to tell him they were were from a different litter.

I also mentioned to our groomer yesterday that I would need her to do 15 puppies in three weeks and she quickly told me she may be going to Alaska!  lol.  Naw, it wasn't really like that.  She really is supposed to go to Alaska to help a neice that's having back surgery, but she isn't sure when she is going yet.  So I may have to take a day off when the time comes just to get them all groomed.  I can't wait to see how LaQuinta's pups look after a haircut.  They are so dark, mostly black.  Most look like they will be black an silver like their mother.  Others look to be black with white markings, and one looks to be a very dark salt & pepper.  Here is LaQuinta:

She's a little beauty.  And she is also "phantom" which means the look of a black mask around her eyes.  Most of her salt & pepper puppies have had the same mask.  This is one of her (and Buster's) pups from a previous litter:

So, how many of you want one of these little beauties?  Hmmmmm???

Aw, C'mon!  Who can resist a beautiful little Schnauzer?  lol

Love to all!
