 Siatica, Give Me A Break

The ole positive attitude is wearing thin the last couple of days.  Just when the majority of my back pain went away and I regained some semblance of normal movement, the hip and leg pain set it.....with a vengence!  Doc says it's Siatica and that I need to just be patient and let my back continue to recover.

Siatica, huh?  Well, I'd heard of it, but never experienced it myself til now.  One thing's for sure, I am not enjoying it at all because at least before it started, I could be fairly comfortable by remaining still.  That's no longer the case and seems the more I try to get up and walk around, the harder and faster these horrible pains ping across my hip and down my left leg.

Am I whining?  Yes.  Complaining?  Yes.  Losing my patience?  Yes.  Getting irritable?  Yes.  Generally pissed off?  YES!!!!!

I was getting just a tad of relief today, so like a real smarty, I decided I could get by on Ibruprophen rather than the prescription pain medication and I also decided to do some reading on the internet about the condition.  Well, the first article I read stated that it was very important to stay active, so I got up and decided I'd do some back exercises and move around the house as much as possible.  Boy, was that the wrong thing to do!  Now I'm back to hurting as badly as I was yesterday morning and back on the pain pills.

So back to the internet I go and find case after case with advise to rest/stay active.  What is a person to believe?  Getting active didn't help mine a bit and made the pain much worse, so my doctor's words keep ringing in my ears...."Be patient". Okay Doc, I get your point now, but I really need to be lots better before Monday when duty calls...LIKE A BULL HORN.  "Patience" and "the work force" don't seem to mix well.

Whoa, is that violin music I hear?  Okay, I get the point and I'm gonna shut up now.  Later, y'all.

 Aw heck, let's just dance!

I'm finally leaving this recliner for longer periods of time and feel like I'm making some progress in getting back on my feet.  Thanks to everybody that have stopped by and left well wishes, suggestions for special chairs, prayers, and positive energy.  I do believe it's working!

My doctor called today to let me know that the MRI showed nothing more than the same old disc degeneration and assured me this was just a flare-up and nothing to worry about.  Nothing that a little more patience, time, and medicine won't take care of.  If I'm not considerably better in a week, he's gonna prescribe some physical therapy, so I'm sure I'll be taken care of one way or the other.

I actually put a meatloaf together this afternoon and got it in the oven and did a little laundry, although very slowly.  But hey, that's Progress! Most of my pain has settled to one spot, then radiates down my left leg, but I'm planning on that being gone in a day or two.  I can now get in and out of the chair or bed without all the pitiful sound effects and can do most anything for myself if I take my time and it feels good to get up a moving for a little while at a time.

Ginger, Jana and Casey have come for the weekend while Ice is gone to the City to deliver puppies.  So I won't get lonely and I'm looking forward to visiting with Ginger and the kids.  They grow up so fast that I welcome any opportunity to spend time with them.

I'll go now and wake my sleeping husband in his chair and point him toward the bed.  Good night everybody and thank you all again for keeping me in your thoughts and keeping my spirits up!  Love you all!

 Down But Not Out

I was just thinking between naps just what a wonderful group of people there are here on the stream.  All day long, the happy little dog on my computer has been popping up, barking and scratching his floppy ear to let me know that I have email.  Then he scratches his ear once more, whistles, and runs away.  He's a cute little booger.

Anyway, he rouses me from my medicated sleep to let me know that yet another one of you has sent well wishes my way and it really warms my heart.  Thanks, guys!

I had the MRI done this morning, but don't know yet what the results are.  I have improved in ways and regressed in ways, but I like to say that I'm somewhat better.  At least Ice isn't having to hold me up just to walk, which was the case all day Sunday.  My left leg just kept collapsing, so Ice would have to walk behind me and hold me up.  I hated to be so helpless and such a burden, but he was so good at it and we had such a good rhythm going, that I kept thanking him for the dance. lol

I have to publicly thank my wonderful husband for being such a great caretaker.  If I were him, I'd probably be totally sick of it by now, and maybe he is, but he's good enough not to show it.  He makes sure I'm fed, watered (lol), get to the bathroom okay, the house is straightened up, the dishes are washed, and I have clean underwear.  Not to mention trying to do his job plus total responsibility for seven dogs and seven puppies.  He's my hero.

In other news....

You all know I like to dabble in poetry once in a while, even if I'm not too good at it.   But one of my favorite styles of poetry is Limerick.  So I'll finish this post with a limerick I put together for the man of the day:

There’s a good lookin guy named Prank

In the stream, he is tops in his rank

His location is a mile high

Lucy’s movie makes him smile

But, are his feet the ones with the Stank?

lol

Happy Birthday, Prankster!

 To The Prankster

From Ice and Pup

Prank, you have a great day, my friend!  Cuz you're the greatest Prankster around!

Thank you and everybody for all the well wishes, prayers, and positive energy.  Gotta go shortly for an MRI.  I am doing some better and can at least stand and walk on my own again, so maybe (crossing fingers) I will be back on my feet in a couple of days.  Sure wish it was today, but I'm happy with the small progress that I've made so far and hope to continue that progress.  I'm sure my heavily medicated mind is rambling, so I hope I've made a little sense.  I love all of you!

 Pity Party, Anyone?

Oh, Woe is Me!!

Here I sit, all broken hearted.....

Oh wait, that's another subject, hehe.  Anyway, I bring you this post from none other than my trusty recliner, where I've pretty much been confined since Thursday.

Here I sit in my Jamaican moo-moo and my ankle socks, grunting and groaning like an old woman.  My favorite things today are:  Pain pills, Muscle relaxers, my trusty heating pad, and my laptop.  Lifesavers all!  But they all pale in comparison to my sweet husband who waits on me hand and foot, makes sure I have everything I need, never complains, and helps me laugh at my pain.

Those of you with bad backs can relate to my misery.  But I've decided to make this a positive experience.  So I've made a list of all the positive things this experience has brought about:

* I have had the opportunity to get a lot of work done here at home without the interruptions that the office atmosphere offers.

* I have a laptop that allows me to keep up with the "Stream" and chat with my friends, and play online poker or games, as well as the work I just mentioned.

* I am confined to the living room instead of my usual perch in the kitchen, therefore I'm afforded the eye candy of my handsome, sexy husband as he sits at his desk blogging or balancing the checkbook.  Hubba Hubba!

* I have been able to locate and mentally tag each and every cobweb for later extraction.

* I don't have to chase Sugar around to take away whatever the little thief has scouted out and latched on to that she shouldn't have.  I'm now the "spotter" that alerts Ice to chase her down and retrieve said object.  However, since last evening's "race", Sugar has now been confined to the outdoors and the kennel (probably til I'm back on my feet, lol).

* Ice gets to witness bizarre contortions of my body as I attempt to vacate the chair and maneuver my way to the bathroom, coffee pot, or the shower.

* I'm learning to make the best use of my time, such as those times I am on my feet, i.e. getting the coffee refill, making sure I have cigs, the phone, lotion, carmex, writing tools and paper, all materials necessary for work, as well as thinking ahead to anything I might need in the near future and having them within arm's reach.  It's amazing how much you can fit on two end tables, lol.

* I'm much closer to whatever playlist Ice has going at the time, so I can enjoy the music that much more, as well as watch him stop and break into a dance as he crosses the floor to or from the kitchen.

* I'm on leave from housework and cooking.  (love this one!)

* I have the perfect opportunity to read a good book.  But so far, I'd rather read on the Stream.

* Ice helped me clean the ceiling fan last weekend, so I DON'T have to look at that awful fuzzy grime and not be able to do anything about it.

* I'm excused from Kennel duty for the time being.  I won't go into the fact that I miss spending time with the puppies since this is supposed to be positive.

* I've been able to establish that I still have ten toes and that I have fat feet, since that's mostly what I have to look at lately, lol.  Lucy would be so proud, lol.

Which reminds me!  I gotta get my votes in for the various "tootsie awards", lol.  I gotta say a hearty THANK YOU to Lucy for keeping us all entertained with her vast array of things to do.

Lucy, your talent seems to know no boundaries and your latest creation is a big hit!  Take a bow, my friend!  Your imagination and sense of style are truly awesome!

Well folks, I need to end this little "party" and go see what all of you are up to on your blogs.  Or maybe I'll just take a nap...ahhh that sounds wonderful.  Catch you guys later!

Pity Party Pup
