 My Convictions

I'm increasingly concerned about this nation and it's "attitude".  I wrote recently about "In your face" tactics and opinions that seem to be becoming the "norm" in the form of a poem.

What happened to accountability?  What happened to common decency and consideration of others?  What happened to truth?

My concern comes from the fact that these things are no longer "popular" and the fact that too many expect us to follow this "popular" trend.  I, for one will never subscribe to the negative atmosphere that some seem to crave and try to create in the name of debate or "exercising their rights".

I do believe I have the same rights as anybody in this county and respect those rights of others.  But I don't feel I have the right to exercise my rights at the expense of theirs.  Funny how so many these days miss that point.  What isn't funny is they are increasingly getting away with it.

I tried very hard for a while to actually sit through an O'Reilly show, because I think the guy actually makes some very good points.  But sadly, those good points get lost in the tactics in which they are made.  Just an example of the kind of atmosphere I refuse to subscribe to.

"In your face" tactics, verbal bullying and winning not by the best point, but the best "smoke screen" takes validity from the truth of the matter.  And it scares me that our children are watching this every day and learning from it.  I grew up with the concept that truth was simply that.....truth.  And truth requires no smoke screen or tactics.

I don't perceive anyone that chooses to "live and let live" as open targets for my critisizm.  And if I am ever so arrogant as to "bite" at their beliefs, I will fully expect them to bite back.  They aren't door mats, after all.

These are my truths and my convictions.  And they're not up for debate.

Nuff said.

p.s.  Repost of my poem:

As the swinging pendulum slows on it’s sway

And stops to swing the other way

I hope it returns us to another day

When life was slower and simpler, I say.

Progress is peaking at the cost of our souls

Taken by rationalizations, hidden in the folds

Of spun and weaved lies of which we are told

And before we know it, our convictions have been sold

Swing, oh pendulum, back to a time

When truth was abundant and honor sublime

From extreme to extreme, the concept is true

Always proven but realized by few

Truth is not in fashion, facts are no more

It’s “in your face” tactics and opinions galore

For the tide will turn and where will we be?

Shaking our fists?............ or on bended knee?

When the swinging pendulum slows on it’s sway

And stops to swing............ the other way

 A Milestone

Peanut has gotten so much more active that he was having fits in that little outside area, so we decided to turn him loose this evening in the "big yard" to make him feel a little better.  Prissy and Junior had to visit with him through the gate, but Peanut was ecstatic to see them up close.  I took a few pictures so you can all see how he is doing.

Ice shopped around til he found a halo that is more flexible and not as big, and Peanut does very well with it.  The thing hanging down under his left "armpit" is a tube that Doc put in during his surgery and will be taking that out on Tuesday.

Junior (I love that face!)

Looks like I'm gonna have to do some haircuts soon, but I really prefer Junior's hair long.  He's so soft and cuddly that way, but it tends to mat, so I guess I'll give him a trim.....sigh.  lol

I basically wanted to show everybody how well Peanut is doing and although his wounds still don't look that great, it's such a huge improvement to what they were.  Thanks again for all your concern and prayers for little Peanut.  It's working, folks!

Oh, and I came home to find all the new fence posts in place!  These guys work fast and everything is strong and perfectly straight.  After the concrete sets over the weekend, they'll string the wire on Monday.  It's a very heavy chain link with smaller links.  Plus the guy will be securing it at the bottom so that no dog will even be able to get in that way (or out).  I can't wait til it's finished!

I've been a zombie today since I stayed up half the night finalizing another grant.  It had to go in the mail today, so I didn't have much choice.  Anyway, I'm glad it's done so I can move on to the next professional fire to put out.  lol.  What little time I slept, I was dreaming about goals and objectives and improvement plans and salaries and budgets........

Sorry, I almost fell asleep there, lol.  So much for the exciting life of a Schnauzer lover.  See ya later, gaters!
