Ice and I made a whirlwind trip to OKC yesterday, just to turn around and make the trip back again today, whew!  Anyway, the entire trip was for the purpose of a training I signed up for at the Capitol building. 

This training was held after hours in the House Chamber at the Capitol and we all filed in and took a seat in whatever legislator's chair we wished.  I didn't choose our local representative's chair since it was way toward the back of the room, but thought about it. 

Anyway, we were then guided through a "mock session" and were allowed to debate a bill that happens to be a current bill before the House and was written for victims of domestic violence or sexual assault.  So, we had to be creative to actually "debate" a bill that we are all in favor of, but we managed quite well.  It was pretty nifty to sit there and push the buttons on the desk when I wanted to be recognized, then called by the representative's name of who's chair I was occupying. 

The main facilitator of this training talked so fast that I still left there "legislatively challenged", but still just a bit smarter about the process.  I wanted to become more familiar with the processes since our state coalition supports certain bills, as well as having a lobbyist for our cause.  So I wanted to be more able to understand the various stages that the bills go through and who I need to contact to support or not support a bill.  All the committee processes get pretty complex at times, but I think I came away with a little better understanding of that process.

So we are back home again, but will be heading out again tomorrow for a little R&R at the boats.  We're gonna do a little gamblin', hopefully a little winnin', take a nap if we feel like it, play a little Scrabble, read a book, or whatever else suits our fancy.  We go there a few times a year just to unwind for a couple of days.  The room is free, some of the food is free, so it's a cheap getaway as long as we stick to our gambling budget.  

Actually, I'm planning on hitting some outrageously large jackpot and coming home rich.......

Yeah, I could live with that......
